Wisdom Teeth

My orthodontist recently recommended that I get my wisdom teeth removed. I had braces for about a year and he didn’t want to see all that dental work go to waste. I did some research on wisdom tooth removal, and it’s a rather common procedure. When a tooth becomes impacted, there’s no room for it to erupt beyond the gum. This can cause many problems later in life such as tooth decay and gum disease, and I don’t want either of those. Although, the surgery itself can result in some minor and major complications. If the nerve that controls feeling in my lower lip is tampered with, I might never be able to feel my lower lip again. I’m a little fearful of this because I happen to like my lower lip. The doctor assured me that the chances of this happening are very slim. Some minor complications include infections of different kinds, such as sinus infections and gum infections. Infections could also occur anywhere in the body due to this procedure. After considering all of these outcomes, I think it is best to go ahead and get it over with. I don’t want my teeth crooked and I don’t want pain in the back of my mouth. I hope nothing goes wrong!
